Happy International Colour Day folks!
It’s no secret how passionate we are about colour and using it to create dazzling and delightful spaces. And colourspiration, the finding of amazing and inspiring colour combos, can strike at any time. Inspiration seeking is no longer limited to a monthly flick of interiors mags, although secretly we still love a little bit of that when time permits. Instead, we get social, scrolling through Pinterest and image rich Instagram for interesting interior ideas to apply to our client’s spaces.
We're celebrating ICD by giving a shout out to 5 wise women who fill our world, or at least our social media feed, with creativity, joy and an extra large serving of colourspiration.
Alex Fulton whole heartedly embraces colour with every fiber of her being (she's from the Apfel school). A self described maximalist and colour nut, Alex is a Blenheim (NZ) based interior designer and stylist. Her recently completed house is full on and fablulous. It’s colour heaven and full of bold, bright and unexpected combinations that quite simply blow you away. Oh what fun she must have had on this project, you can’t help but smile! When a 95 year old style guru talks, we listen. Life was not meant to be boring, and neither, according to Iris Apfel, is your wardrobe. In Melbourne, it's easy to fall into the habit of wearing black day in, day out, but Iris reminds us to be bold, colourful and dress with eclectic fabulousness at all times. Iris worked as an interior designer for many years and applies a similarly energetic “More is more, less is a bore” approach to interiors. All hail Iris, the queen of colour. There are stylists, and then there’s Megan Morton. With 15 years experience, Megan has moved into super stylist territory. Not only does she style for magazines, she whips together elegant and interesting commercial and residential properties. She’s written books, runs a Propery, shares her skills through workshops at The School and most recently has become a tour guide, hosting initmate excursions to Paris and India. As such, Megan’s insta-feed is choc full of exotic delights! And we’re totally adding one (if not two) of her excursions to our to-do list. French born, London based textile designer, Camille Walala knows prints. Inspired by the Bauhaus, Memphis and Pop design movements, Camille’s work is gorgeously graphic and playful. Her exhuberant designs and pop colours have adorned homewares and clothing (in a recent Gorman collab). But it’s her work on buildings and in public spaces which is truly engaging. It’s stop you in your tracks brilliant, we can’t get enough. Check out Camille here: @camillewalala
Our final shout out goes to artist Rachel Castle. Her eye for colour is next level. And her colour combos are clever, cool and oh so covetable. We love her engaging embroideries and have whiled away many an afternoon staring longingly at her artwork (sigh). Her Instagram is totally worth a follow. Sure her artwork is amazing, and the images are inspiring but her hashtags are hilarious and you might even catch a glimpse of her delightful dog, Sydney Sausage.
